Self-Reflection Essays - Cadillactica, Startup Cult, Chitto Harjo

Dr. Amy Getty LIBA-110 January 18 2015 Self-Reflection Hello, my name is Kendall Austin. Im majoring in Computer Science. Im a big city kid from Dallas, Texas. So, when I was given the opportunity to go to school out of state, I took it. I always wanted to be like in a small, grassland, crop growing, and Midwestern state. Also, its something different and I wanted to live away from home. I played high school football for arguable one of the most popular teams ever, Dallas Carter. We are popular because, of our state championship victory at the end of the movie Friday Night Lights. We have had a winning program for years and have sent many to the NFL. After my junior season my grades plummeted and I lost a lot of scholarships. So when Grand View University accepted me, I was happy to sign. Growing up in the city made me a city boy I guess. Im use to a lot of noise and a lot of different people. I spend my spare time going out with girls or just going shopping. I cant function if certain stores arent around me. However, Ive always wanted to get into camping, snowboarding, chopping down trees, and other outdoor activities. They have always interested me since I was young. Growing up Ive always understood girls because, I grew up around a lot of woman. In result of this, I tend to keep myself well groomed and mannered. I have always been the dude to be on womans side and feel like they do run the world. Another trait about me is I have literally always been an outspoken leader. Ever since 5th grade when I walked out of class to go use the restroom. People naturally seem to like what Im doing and join my movement. They see that Im over-confident and will guarantee you a win every time Im involved. No matter how bad things look. I have always been a good talker and was neve r really scared to do anything in front of a lot of people. Being competitive has been my life story. I hate coming up short. No matter if its in grades, running, or even a sheep shaving contest. One thing I dont support is Commercialized Leaders. Commercialized leaders are leaders that ask for followers. If you had to ask, are they really with you. When I was in high school, playing football on a collegiate level was always kind of a dream of mines. It was just one of them things I had to do. Truth be told, going to a university was honestly a big deal to me. Also, considering that Ive never really been a school type of guy. My goals after are to apply for the FBI or DEA and get accepted into the 3 month training period. Then work my way up in it and show them that Im a valuable asset. After a while, I will join the CIA. I want to help protect America from scumbag losers and foreigners. My biggest fears growing up were/are easily failure. Failure is the scariest thing ever to me. I dont even consider failure an option. When I think of failure I think of homeless people. I think of unsaved civilians I think of a life full of I should of or what ifs. An as an athlete I dont ever want to regret not grasping an opportunity. I feel you should be better today than you was yesterday. And not just in sport, but in life. Whether its learning 1 new French word a day or reading one chapter every night in a book. In my case, this causes me to constantly work on my craft. Im constantly building mental will along with physical strength because, it would break my heart to look in the mirror every morning and think of what couldve been. So, thats why Im so competitive and confident because, if I wasnt it would show weakness and uncertainty. You have to believe in yourself before anybody else can. You already in pain or stressing. Why not gain something from it. I feel I have some pretty valuable strengths as a student. Strengths such as comprehension.

Film Analysis Essay

Introduction Director Ron Howard and Producers Brian Grazer, Penny Marshall had all the ingredients of a clichà ©d film.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Film Analysis Essay -Cinderella Man specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More First, they selected an award winning actor to play the lead role in ‘Cinderella Man’. Then they chose to focus on a storyline that others have done countless times in Hollywood; a boxing championship. Furthermore, the events in the film occurred in the depression era, which was a favorite for many predecessors before them. Regardless of these obvious choices, the film feels nothing like a clichà ©. The combination of characters, themes, and narration work perfectly to make the story authentic. Summary The film is about a 1930s boxing legend known as James Braddock. Others nicknamed him Cinderella man because, just like the fairytale Cinderella, he arose from underdog to champions hip status despite tremendous odds. Braddock was a budding boxer before the depression. However, after the stock market crash, he lost his job and struggled to provide for his family. It was at this point when he got a second chance from his manager –Joe Gould. Braddock unexpectedly wins the match and succeeds in several other matches. Eventually, he wins the national championship against one of the most feared competitors in boxing history- Max Baer (Howard, 2005). Elements of the film that bring out its authenticity Genre It is possible to categorize this movie into three predominant genres; however, the director’s approach to each of these genres was eccentric thus rendering credibility to the film. The first and most obvious genre is the autobiographical film category.Advertising Looking for essay on art and design? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More The movie is a depiction of the life of James Braddock. In fac t, its director tried to stay as true to the real Braddock as possible. The boxing mannerisms of the lead characters were typical of the real individuals that experienced those events. However, instead of blandly relieving the events of this sportsman’s professional life, the producers merged it with James’ personal experiences. They also took liberties with some of the characters like Braddock’s key competitor Max Baer. Historians affirm that the latter individual was less brutal than depicted in the film. It was necessary to take these liberties in order to make the movie interesting. Therefore, the director’s interpretation of an autobiographical movie was a welcome break from the norm. Alternatively, one may classify this motion picture as a sports film. Boxing as a competitive sport is one of the most entertaining to watch. Nonetheless, several directors have fallen into the trap of making it too action-packed. 90’s films like ‘Rockyâ₠¬â„¢ lacked substance because their focus was on winning matches rather than the journey towards the prize. ‘Cinderella man’ avoids this blunder by dedicating a substantial portion of the movie to James’ life outside the ring. Additionally, even the action sequences are quite believable. Therefore, Cinderella man is an impressive improvement of a sports film. ‘Cinderella man’ is a historical movie since it relives the horrors of an important historical occurrence in the US. Depression-era films come in many shapes and sizes.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Film Analysis Essay -Cinderella Man specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More What makes this film unique is its perfect blend of personal stories, action-packed boxing matches and the economic atmosphere after the stock-market crash. It would have been boring for the plot to focus on the stock market crash and its general effect on peo ple. However, by selecting one man’s story, the film expanded its audience from intellectuals and historians to typical American audiences. All individuals have the capacity to resonate with others once they hear their stories. Furthermore, the director captured the tone and atmosphere of the 30s perfectly. Its lead characters talk just like working- class Americans of that time talked. Furthermore, their costume and locations were emblematic of the 30s. Ron Howard recreated a New York Street in the 1930s by reorganizing a large portion of Toronto. Everything from the stop lights to the store fronts was typical of that era. Therefore, the production team used their storyline, location, character selection, and costume to portray the historical side of the film; this was quite commendable (Landay, 2013). Theme The film extols the virtues of honest, hard work. The depression minimized people’s options in the country. However, a few resolute individuals like James stuck t o their principles and continued to provide for their families through honest means. When Braddock asks for a last chance in boxing, he does not do it for sentimental reasons as this would have made the film too sentimental. His reasons are noble and literal to the typical American audience, so they add authenticity to the film.Advertising Looking for essay on art and design? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Cinderella man also has the theme of optimism. The first part of the movie seems dark and depressing as Braddock’s family takes many blows. At one, point, his wife must ask a gas technician to refrain from disconnecting their heat. In another scenario, he had to borrow change from a colleague. It would have been easy to throw in the towel, but James did not do it. He swallowed his pride and asked for an opportunity. When he got it, Braddock went after the prize with all his resolve. James’ fight against Baer seemed like a case of David versus Goliath. He did not give up on the match regardless of the threats and intimidation of other parties. Because of his commitment to his goal, Braddock garnered support from the masses. Many of them found inspiration from someone like them. At the time, the country needed a hero, so Braddock was more than welcome to take the role. Characters Perhaps one of the reasons why the movie seems so authentic is the input that the lead actor –Russell Crowe made to the motion picture. The latter individual seems perfectly suited for the role. Braddock was a laid-back and dignified man who reserved his aggressiveness for the boxing ring. When Braddock was about to lose everything, he decided to beg for one last opportunity in boxing. Russell Crowe pulls off that scene with so much grace. He is steady but spirited at the same time. This is clearly something that only talented actors can accomplish (Landay, 2013). A substantial part of the movie converts the boxing matches that Braddock engaged in before his championship title. This marks the greatest accomplishment of the production team. Boxing as a sport attracts large crowds due to its showmanship as well as its technical credentials. Crowe captured both aspects very clearly. The production team made the action long enough to be enjoyed, but short enough to create apprehension. Braddock’s punches are deliberate, which explains why he beats a man who had k illed two people in the ring. It took a lot of skill to represent this triumph of brains over brawn, so the character casting was ideal for the lead role. The production team did not fix these matches into the story sequence simply to fulfill sporting expectations. The matches were in the movie to enrich the narrative. Overall, Crowe is more than persuasive as a sweaty, determined and sluggish fighter in this film. He does not use antics to garner support; instead he relies on his wits and fists. Braddock’s wife, as played by Renee Zellweger, was an ideal representation of a working class mother. She worried about her husband’s safety in boxing. This explains why she tried to talk him out of it and even avoided listening to the match commentaries when Braddock met Baer. Zellweger delivers an impressive performance of a mother who only wants the best for her family. She is homely and ideal for her part. Similarly, Braddock’s manager also did a good job in the fil m. Joe is ideal for injecting a dose of humor into the narrative. The production team selected Paul Giamatti for this role. At one, point, he talks crudely about seeing the opponent’s blood on the floor. In another scene, he puts his own property at stake because he wanted to get money for Braddock’s training. His blend of humor, honesty and loyalty to Braddock are both endearing and just right for him Conclusion The production team’s choice of theme, characters and genre were perfect for creating an authentic and credible film. The director’s interpretation of the sports, autobiographic and historical film genres made the piece unique because he focused on a personal narrative. Most of the action sequences served the plot rather than the reverse. The choice of character augmented the film’s credentials because Russell Crowe, Paul Giamatti, and Renee Zellweger were ideal for the roles. Finally, the film’s themes were conventional, but the pr oduction team’s depiction of them was what made them sensible. References Howard, R. (Executive Producer). (2005). Cinderella man [DVD]. Top 100 Most-Used German Words

Top 100 Most-Used German Words Have you ever wondered what the top 500, 1,000 or 10,000 German words were? If you need to learn German vocabulary, which words should you learn first? Which ones are most frequently used? The Projekt Deutscher Wortschatz at the Universitt Leipzig scanned texts and included variations of the same word, including capitalization versus lower case and other possible forms of any particular word. The definite article (the) appears in all of its German variations: der/Der, die/Die, den, etc. The verb to be appears in all of its conjugated forms: ist, sind, war, sei, etc. Even the new and old spellings of dass/daß are considered two different words. The Leipzig researchers noted that if one were to select different text sources for analysis, one would get different results. An analysis of the vocabulary found in a novel versus that in a comic book or a newspaper would not be similar. Obviously, an analysis of spoken German would also yield different results.   Here are charts showing the top 100 most-used German words, and one showing the top 30 most-spoken German words. EXPERIENCE OF THE BEAUTY SALONS Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

EXPERIENCE OF THE BEAUTY SALONS - Essay Example Now, we define beauty in terms of our perceptions of it which is greatly influenced by the flawless looking faces on our TV screens. In today’s world, people have become increasingly aware of the importance to look their best as your outlook is not only the primary factor that can make or break your impression but is also a booster of self confidence and esteem levels. In this never ending pursuit of beauty, our best facilitators, after the cosmetics, have been the beauty salons. Theirs is the one organization that primarily caters to the fairer sex and is known to do wonders for their outlook. It is generally believed that if you are having issues with your skin, go the beauty salons regularly and they will cure it for you. If you are subject to pressures and stress in the daily routine, go to the salon occasionally for a massage and you will forget all your worries (Michelle). Other than that, if we deem ourselves not to be as fancy as to go to the salon for petty issues as the ones mentioned previously, even then it is inevitable for us to go there for the periodic requirements of nail care or haircuts if nothing else. Beauty salons are a perfect haven of female pampering. It is a business that not only caters to our requirement of enhancing the beauty but also happens to be a luxurious medium of relaxation. On the other hand, a beauty salon is a sort of business that greatly relies on customer retention. Due to this aspect, once you become a regular customer, you get to see a lot of familiar faces around on your every trip. Not only that, due to these periodic trips one also gets to know the employers over there and both the parties are also able to develop sort of a mutual understanding. In my particular case, I am bound to go to the salon every once in a while most often for a haircut if nothing else and have now been going to the same parlour for the past couple of years. I know the place by heart and can see its whole alignment right in my head. It is a small salon in the market two blocks from my home and I can usually go there by foot. Out of all the shops around it, theirs is the board that is the hardest one to miss. With its big windows of tinted glass with posters of beautiful women adorning the campaigns of famous cosmetics, to its big pink sign above the doors with the name of the saloon written in the curly font, it is the one domain that stands out from the rest and screams of female dominion. On going through its sliding doors, one finds herself in a small room that farther leads down different sections of the salon. My first impression whenever I enter the salon is of overwhelming surprise due to all the pink around. The walls of the salon are pink; the flooring is in a different shade of pink; and on top of that all the workers there have also been assigned to wear pink shirts as their uniform so that they also blend in with the whole theme. I am personally always overwhelmed by the whole uniformity of colour a s soon as I step in the door. The inside of the salon is all filled with things to enhance the beauty. There is a small reception area on the right of the door where the clients are received and the transactions take place for their orders. The rest of the room is dominated by an area specified for haircuts and other hair treatments with high backed chairs that have each a mirror hanging in front of them. Below the mirrors is a long shelf that runs across all the chairs and has drawers filled with the tools of the workers for working in the hair department. This room is always buzzing with the sounds of the blow dryers drying and setting hair of the customers that are done with their hair treatments. Farther down, the room branches off to a number of

Database Forensics and Auditing Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Database Forensics and Auditing - Research Paper Example The paper will focus on the differences between database forensics and databases auditing. This paper has focus on the definition of database forensic and database auditing, the regulation under database auditing, the meaning of Data Access Auditing, and Data Monitoring. The goal is to clarify the comparison between database forensic and auditing tools by analyzing some of their features. In addition, the paper will show the threats that may affect the database and how it can affect database forensic and auditing. In conclusion, databases can be secured using a number of strategies that restrict unauthorized access, incorrect alteration of data and enhance data integrity to ignore any kind of hacking or losing data. Introduction The Verizon business risk team did an investigation of 90 data breaches occurred in 2008, which revealed an overall score of 285 million stolen records. Likewise, 80% of data breaches occurred due to weak corporate information security and initiated from exte rnal sources i.e. from hackers, malicious codes etc. and 20% data breaches were initiated internally (Goldmann, n.d). Moreover, 49% of data breaches in 2008 were not diagnosed for months. Furthermore, in 2008, 81% organizations affected from credit card breaches were not able to perform their last PCI assessment (Goldmann, n.d). Apart from deploying most updated technology and controls, data is still being compromised. Likewise, tactics of a hacker is categorized as 70 % credentialed users, 10% trading partners and 46% internal threats (Goldmann, n.d). ‘Wikileaks’ and ‘Stuxnet’ virus is one of the recent major security breaches. In summary, the increasing numbers of data breaches are astounding and strive to do more research for database security and protection. It shows that the laws, policies, compliance and regulations are not enough to counter these challenges. In order to protect databases via best practices, we will first differentiate between databas e forensics and database auditing, as there two terms will demonstrate adequate protection from potential threats and vulnerabilities. After describing these terms, we will incorporate Microsoft Log miner tool for collecting forensic evidence from a database and for auditing or reviewing database current state, SQL auditing will be incorporated. Database Forensics Database forensics that is also called Oracle forensics is relatively a new evolving field. Database forensics is conducted by different tools that facilitate Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) to re-establish actions performed on the database with the exception of deactivated forensic features. Likewise, database forensics identifies the suspect by extracting traces of an attacker from the database and revert the suspicious transactions if possible. The primary goal of database forensics is to analyze the vulnerabilities that were utilized and exploited by the threat and to rollback any unofficial data manipulation opera tions. However, it is a daunting task, as attackers play safe and prefer attacks from other regions and IP addresses that involve different time zones and mediums before extracting data or compromising security controls of a database. Some of the vulnerabilities associated with database compromises include default and unchanged usernames and passwords, passwords are not long, complex or easily guessable, Database is not up to date and missing critical updated
